The Original Costume Museum Society wishes to fill the following volunteer positions as soon as possible:

Treasurer

Attends board meetings; carries out the responsibilities of a trustee regarding society governance and financial stability; oversees all financial matters and transactions, maintains financial records, prepares monthly financial reports, prepares tax receipts, prepares or arranges for the preparation of annual financial statements.

Trustee: Publicity and Marketing

Attends board meetings; carries out the responsibilities of a trustee regarding society governance and financial stability; carries out committee work, in particular chairing or working on the Public Relations Committee, which oversees publicity for all programs and events, website, and newsletter.

Trustee: Membership Development and Recordkeeping

Attends board meetings; carries out the responsibilities of a trustee regarding society governance and financial stability; carries out committee work, in particular chairing or working on the Membership Committee, which receives OCMS membership applications and renewals, maintains membership database [Access], sends out renewal notices, mails out membership cards.

Newsletter Editor

Produces and distributes the OCMS’s e-newsletter for members, using information mostly provided by others; may research and post additional information related to historical costuming, which would be of interest to OCMS members; e-mails program reminders to OCMS members prior to scheduled programs.

Website Designer

Convert website from html to a Wordpress Content Management System; design the new website using a new, but existing, design template.

Website and Social Media Manager

Keeps website up-to-date by adding to website based on information and photographs provided by others, as well as deleting or archiving outdated website information.

Poster Designer

Prepare a digital poster for each OCMS event using an existing design template. Approximately 6-10 per year.

General Member of the Board (Trustee)

Organization:  The Original Costume Museum Society (OCMS) is working towards the creation of a permanent museum dedicated to the history of fashion, ethnic costume, and textiles.  It currently offers educational programs and historical fashion shows for the general public and has a large collection of historical garments.

OCMS Mission:  To create a museum that explores the history of fashion, ethnic costume, and textiles

Responsible to:  The members of the OCMS through the President

Term:  2 years

Time commitment:  4 to 10 hours per month (depending on committee work)

Responsibilities:

• Prepares for and attends monthly board meetings
• Carries out the general responsibilities of a member of a not-for-profit board (society governance, policies, financial stability)
• Performs committee work (current needs include choosing one of the following: grant writing, volunteer coordination, fundraising by donation)
• Promotes the OCMS in the community

Skills:

• Ability to work in a team
• Successful experience in area of chosen committee work

• Gain a reference, if resume is being created.
• Associate with other educated, motivated individuals.

Volunteer Sewers Needed

The OCMS is still in need of sewers to sew garment bags to house the garments in our collection.
